Citizen’s Bank Park was evacuated for a short time this afternoon when some suspicious packages were found outside the stadium. The bomb squad was called in and detonated the packages. It turns out that the packages actually contained, not bombs, but hot dogs-the kind the Phillie Phanatic shoots out at the crowd during games. Can’t wait to see what ESPN does with this…
The comments following this story (on philly.com) are priceless. My favorite belongs to someone named shoeshineboy:
In her latest blog post, Phyllis Tickle finds “church” happening in places we might not suspect. I want to start one of these groups…
Romal Tune wonders about political labels here and here. I like this line: “Shouldn’t we be seeking unity in the body of Christ, rather than entrenching ourselves in positions that distance us from each other? It’s hard enough trying to do the work of ministry, so why should we expend so much energy defending ourselves against other Christians?”
I like this post, and I wonder if more US Christians are ready to embrace a holistic approach to being “pro-life”…
This is an older article, but it’s summer and too good to pass up!
Only nerds like me would be into this, but it’s creative! Can I trade an R.C. Sproul for an N.T. Wright and a John Howard Yoder?
Greg Boyd has been posting some interesting thoughts on violence and the Old Testament. I found his book review here to be informative as well. How do you reconcile the violence of some parts of the OT with the teachings of Jesus?
A good discussion on Bible translation, from the Internet Monk. I’m curious-which translations do you use most, and why?
The election season is in full swing, and here are some thoughts on politics from my friend Shane.
For fun, check out this piece on how to find out if other Christians drink beer.
Some stuff I found interesting in the past week or so:
Wezlo talks about “Pastor Cults” and “Church Cults“. No truth to the rumor that he will next discuss “Nintendo Wii Cults”…
Brian McLaren writes about the need for rhetorical accountability, in light of James Dobson’s latest political comments.
John McCain believes gun ownership is “sacred”, and the Young Anabaptist Radicals raise some questions about it. What does the current use of the word “sacred” tell us about our values?
Dave Dunbar discusses the distinctions of Missional, Emerging, and Emergent communities in the latest Missional Journal.
I haven’t had much time lately to blog, so I am trying to remedy that today. Life has been pretty busy of late, so I am enjoying having a few moments free on a nice day. I am going to try to be much better at blogging from now on, and do it more frequently. Hopefully…
Today I signed up for twitter. Wezlo told me about it, and I thought “Heck, what’s ONE MORE online social tool!” It’s a little strange knowing that people track all the little details of your day, but there could be some uses for a tool like this. I’d like to know how others are using this service, and what ministry uses might be possible with it.
